More Health Care in Rochester
Suzie Noronha, MD Pediatric oncologist
I chose the field of pediatric hematology/oncology because I want to help ill children, as well as their families, through the difficult process of cancer and blood disorder diagnosis and treatment. I am fascinated by blood cells and how subcellular and vascular alterations can affect the entire body. It was natural for me to combine these interests to treat hematologic pediatric cancers and sickle cell disease.
I am also proud to be a wife and mother of two busy and bright children.
Angela Girvin, MD Pediatric oncologist
I am most interested in the treatment and care of children with leukemia/lymphoma and rare tumors as well as children with blood diseases.
Barbara Asselin, MD Pediatric oncologist
Dr. Asselin provides care for pediatric patients with cancer and blood disorders and conducts research trials in pediatric malignancies. Since 2009, she has worked as an academic hospitalist in the division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine providing comprehensive inpatient medical care for children with acute and chronic illnesses.
David Korones, MD Pediatric oncologist
I believe that children with cancer do best when they and their parents are full partners on the treatment team. That means sitting down, taking time, listening to them and their struggles, showing them you care, responding to them with openness and honesty, and offering our expertise (and our team's expertise) to meet their needs.
Jeffrey Andolina, MD, MS Pediatric oncologist
Dr. Andolina is the Director of Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplantation and has experience in treating both Leukemias, as well as non-malignant conditions including aplastic anemia and Immunodeficiencies. He has a particular interest in bone marrow transplant for patients with sickle cell anemia. In addition, Dr. Andolina has an interest in the adolescent and young adult population; he also cares for young adults undergoing bone marrow transplantation.
Jessica Shand, MD, MHS Pediatric oncologist
Dr. Shand is an early career physician-scientist studying how and why acute lymphoblastic leukemia cells produce "danger signals" that promote their own survival and tolerize the immune microenvironment. She is specifically interested in designing novel immunotherapies that manipulate how these signals are received in the bone marrow to eliminate minimal residual disease and prevent relapse.
Lauren Solan, MD, MEd Pediatrician
Dr. Solan is a pediatric hospitalist who cares for patients admitted to the hospital with general pediatric conditions. She also does research with interests in improving the way providers communicate with each other and with families and in helping patients transition home after hospital discharge. Dr. Solan also serves as the Associate Division Chief of Pediatric Hospital Medicine.
Maha Kaissi, MD Pediatrician
Maha was born in Baghdad, Iraq, but her family moved when she was one year old to Nederland, Texas, where she grew up. She attended Texas A&M University for her Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Sciences. She received her MD from McGovern Medical School in Houston, Texas, with a concentration in Global Health. She completed her residency in pediatrics at the University of Rochester in 2019 and completed a pediatric chief residency from 2019-2020. Her career interests include the care of children with medical complexity, medical education, quality improvement, and wellness.
